Aishwarya Rai nick named "Ash" was a mangalorean but her studies were in Hyderabad and then in Mumbai.She has got a brother in Aditya Rai and her mother is Vrinda Rai and father Krishnaraj Rai.Her ambition was to become an architect, but got into modelling and also won the Miss world title in 1994.
Her debut in movies weer actually a disaster as she started with flop films like tamil film-Iruvar, Jeans, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya etc.But her carier took a new turn with a superhit movie called "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and later on another movie called " Devdas" which was a super hit again and which also bought her international fame as it was even shown a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival.
Later on though she tried her luck in Hollywood movies like "Bride and Prejudice" and 'Mistress of Spices" she couldn't succeed.
In 2003, she became a member of jur at cannes film festival and she also appeared for Oprah's "women across the globe" in 2005.
Since then she has acted in many hit movies in Bollywood and remains the leading actress til date.Recently she got married to Abishek Bachan-son of legendry Shree Amitabh Bachan.
